The Yorkton Cardinals have been in the drivers seat for the past 3 games...On Tuesday night, the Cardinals played host to the Swift Current Indians for a double header matchup...In game 1 the Cards were able to sneak a win, by the final score of 3-1...Travis Donahoo was great for the Cards as he got the win, and also picked up the Alexanders Mens Wear Player of the Game...He Pitched 7.0 innings, 1 run (1 earned) off 6 Indian hits, 0 walks and struckout 5...Nanaimo, BC product Liam Goodall went 2 for 2 in the win...

In game 2 of the double header, the Cards came out on top by the final score of 11-4...What a game this was...The Cards weren't able to pick up 2 wins in a row all season...The win went to Starting pitcher Jamie Whitehead...Tory Bell went 2 for 4, 2 hits, 1 of them being a grandslam, and 5 RBI's in total...Tory was also named the Alexander's Mens Wear Player of the Game...Runner up for the the Player of the Game would have to be Brayon Colley...Brayon went 1 for 3, 2 runs scored, 3 RBI's and 2 Stolen bases for a count of 23 on the year...

Note: Brayon Colley is just 13 Stolen bases away from tying the League Record, which was broken lastyear by Yorkton Cardinals player James Green...

Cardinals lose again

The Yorkton Cardinals travelled to Moose Jaw and Regina today for a strange and yet tiring double header...The Cards offense couldn't get anything going today as they combined for a total of 2 runs scored, while giving up a combined 25 runs to both teams they faced...Max Chadsey was the starting pitcher for the Cardinals, but was then pulled off the field from what could've been an injury. Bryce Manning then came in relief of Chadsey and got the loss...Bryce Manning gave up 4 runs(3earned) off 5 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched...Dustin Caplette was great for the Moose Jaw Miller Express by only allowing 1 run off 6 hits, while striking out 6 Cardinals batters in 9 innings pitched...Tory Bell was the only standout for Yorkton as he launched a solo home run off Caplette for the only Cardinal run of the ball game...Final score was 10 to 1...

In game 2, Yorkton travlled to Regina to take on the Red Sox...The Cards seemed even worse as they ended up losing by the final score of 15 to 1...The Losing pitcher for the Cards was Corey Thompson...Thompson  gave up 9 runs (9 earned) off 8 hits, 4 walk, 2 Strikeouts while only pitching 2 innings...Bryce manning was the star at the plate for the Cardinals going 2 for 3 with a Double and an RBI...

Not much to say except that the Cards now trail Weyburn by 6 games, for the final playoff spot...

Our Leading hitter on last years team was Maple Ridge, BC product Mark Ellis who ended up hitting .391 but ended up leaving the team...so the Leading hitter would have to be Surrey, BC product Kevin McCleod who batted .294 with 42 hits...
Our leading hitter on this years team is Brett Smith who is batting .274 who has 23 hits...

Our leader in pitching last year was Santiago, Dominican Republic product N.D. Gonzalez who had 4 wins, 64 Strikeouts, and a 2.09 ERA
Our Leader this year in pitching is Max Chadsey who has 1 win, 17 Strikeouts, and a 2.22 ERA...

The Cardinals are at home to face the tough Swift Current Indians on Monday and Tuesday at Jubilee Park...

Cards lose to Mils

The Yorkton Cardinals travelled to Pirie Field in Melville tonight for a rival matchup...Starting pitcher for the Cards was Calgary, Alberta native Jamie Whitehead...Jamie gave up 3 runs off of 11 mils hits (2 unearned), 1 walk and 3 K's...You know it is kinda weird, because the Cards defense at the 1st half of the season was dominant, while the offense was lacking to get hits...Now it is the other way around...meaning the defense is kinda crap, while the Offense is exploding with hits...Gotta give the Cards credit in this game, as they were tied up at 4's going into the bottom half of the 9th...It's crunch time for the Cards as every game is so important to them...You gotta hope the Beavers lose as much games as possible because, thats the team we (Cards) are trying to beat out of a playoff spot, seeing that the Beavs are now 4.5 games up on the Red Birds it's going to be a tough next couple of weeks...The Beavers play in Melville tomorrow, so we gotta for once in our lives cheer for Melville...Gabe Cook ended up getting the loss in this game...
